We've all heard about SlingBox, that nifty bit of kit that lets you stream your cable or satellite television to the mobile device of your choice, and now a new company called Aereo aims to provide a similar service for OTA broadcast television. The service costs $12 dollars a month and will launch March 14th, but is only available to folks in New York City. It'll stream all the major networks, and also offers a cloud-based DVR service on the internet-connected device of your choosing, whether it's a phone, tablet or TV. Aereo's powered by large devices containing tons of tiny TV antennas connected to the cloud, with individual antennas corresponding to individual users -- giving each the ability to tune into one channel at a time. Companies and schools that have bought into the whole iPad thing need a place to store and charge their tablets without running miles of extension chords and power strips. Dukane clearly sees an untapped market here, and has launched the MCCD1 and MCC1. Both are caster-mounted, fire and drill resistent cabinets designed to dock and lock piles of iPads. The MCCD1 has space for up to 32 of the iOS tablets and can both charge and sync them while keeping them organized and safe. The MCC1 holds just 30 and can't sync the slates, but it will keep them juiced and locked down between uses. Barclays Bank has unleashed Pingit, an iOS, Android and BlackBerry app that lets you send up to £300 ($470) each day to family, friends or technically-aware muggers. UK mobile number and bank account holders can get started in minutes as long as you've got one of the Barclays-branded PINSentry tools. You'll be asked to come up with a five digit code that will lock the app to anyone but yourself (or, you know, that mugger) and then you can start spreading your cash around, baller-style. They were perfectionists in the 50s. First they photographed the model. Then they painted over the picture to achieve the right effect. There were no shortcuts. And speed was of the essence.

To create pin-up girl illustrations, you have to be faithful to the way it was done in the 50s. From the ground up and without compromise.

Packaging for the chocolates is a chapter for itself. Everything from weight to quality and coating needs to be taken into consideration. Suggestions range from using fabrics to cardboard. But in the spirit of the 50s we end up choosing tin boxes. The production, however, is modern and made in China."

Pinterest was launched in March 2010 and this social media network has has grown more than 4,000 percent in the last 6 months according to Experian Hitwise.

It seems though that it is just starting to hit its straps as the latest figures from Hitwise reveal that at the end of January (in the space of just 3 weeks), Pinterest traffic has increased from 10 million users a month to 17 million!

It is now the 60th most visited site in the USA!

So What is Pinterest?

Obviously a lot of people know what it is and have been playing in the Pinterest "playpen" and have been pinning on its pinboards.

Essentially it is a visual online pinboard or scrapbook that can organise your favourite hobbies or topics visually in categories of your choice.

Pinterest allows people to pin or upload images from websites and blogs (whether that is their own website or one they are visiting) that they find inspiring or beautiful. It can be done with a couple of clicks with a "Pin it" button on the menu bar of your favourite browser.

That image then links back to your website or the one you pinned it from.

Pinterest is still invitation only, but be patient after you apply it will only take a few days before you are let in!

1. Blog personality

The first thing that you need to have is your own blog personality. Since blogging is mainly about writing, you need to develop your own writing personality in your blog. In this way, your blog will be recognized as "unique" and "different". This uniqueness is important since there are thousands of blogs that directly compete with you. If you want people to notice your blog, make sure to use your own writing style in your blog. This is the writing style that will connect you and your readers.

2. Give different perspective

If you haven't made any tweak in your blog theme yet, I suggest you to do so because it will greatly affect your blog's success in the long run.

4. Get your name known in the blogosphere

There are hundreds of expert bloggers that you can connect to make your blog more popular. Blogging becomes more common today, and people have too many choices in which blog that they will read daily. If your name is unknown in the blogging world, chances are that you will have difficulty to grow the numbers of your audience in your blog. That's why you have to make your name known in the blogosphere. You can do this by regularly posting a guest post in high traffic blog in the same niche as yours. This way you will be able to boost your popularity as a blogger quickly.

5. Offer unique information to your readers

It is important that you offer a new idea for your readers. Instead of telling your readers about the same idea, you can formulate your own idea and share your idea with your readers. This kind of unique information will make your readers to come and come again to your blog. Also, it will make your blog to stands out from the crowd of similar blog.

When you offer unique information to your readers, you will be regarded as expert in your niche. And this will pays you nicely in the long run. You will be able to recommend good product to your readers and they will actually follow your recommendation and buy your product without hesitation.

Those are some things that will help you to make your blog stands out from the crowd of thousands of similar blogs. If you have a blog that has no popularity, it is because your blog is not unique. If you follow the tips above, you will be able to finally grow your blog popularity to the roof.

What is it and why should I consider it?

Well responsive design has been around for a little while now, it is a technique which allows you to create a website that will adjust its layout depending on the size of the browser window that it is being viewed in.

This is useful mainly because well how many times have you been looking at a site on your phone for example and had to zoom in and then scroll horizontally to view content? Annoying isn't it? Basically with responsive web design you could then create media queries which find out and use the width of your browser window and then adjust the CSS within the queries creating new rules for them allowing the content to be displayed in a more user friendly way.

I'm not going to tell you that you HAVE to use responsive design when creating website…..you don't have to, obviously, but with the world using technology such as tablets and smart phones which have the ability to view websites all be it on a smaller resolution screen wouldn't you want them to be able to see your site without having to exert the effort of zooming in. It also prevents you from having to create multiple websites for mobile and PC as you would just be able to manage the different styles from within the one websites CSS……just saying.

Where should I start?

Well, before I start I will just say this is all in my opinion so don't track me down with pitchforks and try to burn me for what I say next.

The Design

When creating a website to be responsive the main thing to think of is to make sure that you first off have planned for this. If you make sure that you design your layouts for all the screen resolutions that you want to use it will make things a lot easier when coming to actually coding it….bit of an obvious thing but more often than not it's the obvious things we miss! Also when you are creating your designs all be it wireframes or just PSD designs, people will tell you to make sure that the different layouts aren't too different so that when the screen size is changed it doesn't look completely different, in my honest opinion I don't believe this is correct only because I just don't believe that anyone (other than developers who know your site is responsive and want to see the prettiness) would sit there and resize the window.

So basically with this section my main thing to say is be as creative as possible rather than trying to avoid jumpy changes.

Coding the initial layout

Again for me I feel that coding the layout with just the sections at first and then adding the designs and all your creative goodness after you have got everything moving when you want to where you want is a better idea as you can the see the different stages and sizes that you need to accommodate for but again that's just what I do, feel free to ignore that!

If you haven't already looked up media queries prior to deciding to make your site responsive, do it now here is a link to a really good tutorial to how to use them.

What I tend to do when I am coding the layouts for the different sized screens I will make the header changed colour once it hits the different points, this just lets me see initially where everything is, what values would need to be changed etc. just a little thing which made my life easier once when I was creating a content based RWD for myself once.

The important thing to remember when you are coding the layout is to have sample content within the different sections as without this you would be guessing as to how it will look and guessing at the padding making a difference as well as the overflow attributes as these can all be affected when changing the screen size.

Simple section as it isn't really that different to creating a normal website I just thought I would chuck in my two cents as to the processes I go through when creating a responsive website.

Once you have done these two things you will basically be ready to finish off your site with all your creative images, backgrounds, logos what ever floats your boat really as the skeleton for the site will be there waiting to be utilized. Last thing I will say is when the screen gets smaller try to not over fill the white space on the site as this can easily become cluttered.

Conclusion

Concluding this short and very basic beginners intro to why they should consider RWD, I just want to say that I think personally using this technique will allow you to reach a bigger number of people and be more accessible to them wherever they may be (on a train, in an office even in a pub!). I also think it will help your inner designer as it will make you think about the use of white space more and to help you to create a more fluid and user friendly website.

I don't know about you, but I've always been fascinated by surfing. Something about the elegance of seeing someone balancing on a board floating over the forces of nature manages to be both inspiring and relaxing to watch. But despite a period of trying to conquer skateboarding, I knew I'd never be a surfer. Partly it was down to geography – Kent in England is not necessarily a hotbed of surfing talent. More importantly, I combined a lack of balance with a dislike of swimming.

But around the age of 11 or so, I read the amazing Walking on Water by Andy Martin. Like me, he grew up in England, and didn't become a professional surfer – but due to his fascination and obsession with it, he did spend time in the water, and the book covers his journey to Hawaii to speak to the leading stars of the early 90s and to cover the world championship at the time.

What really hooked me was one passage, in which he describes being stopped at airport customs and asked what the purpose of his journey was. Having been hired to do some freelance reporting on surfing for The Times, he pulled out a busines card stating 'The Times, Surfing Correspondent', and that allowed him to carry on his journey. (I'm writing from memory as I suspect a previous loan of the book led to it never returning to my possession).

It's followed by amazing writing, characters and stories as he gets to meet all his heroes and surf Hawaii, but the key thing that stuck with me was this:

You can be an expert, earn a living, meet your heroes and be utterly absorbed by something as a writer, and sharing that can be as powerful as actually doing it for a living.

Suddenly I realised that I might never be paid to race cars or bikes, but I could earn a living by sharing my obsession and knowledge of motorsport and all things with an engine.

Having applied that approach to motorcycles, cars, technology, and writing itself, I've had the enormous good fortune to be published by leading publications in their field, visited foreign countries, had amazing experiences and spoken with a number of my childhood heroes. Less than 1% of racers will ever get to legitimately be in the MotoGP paddock, for example, but as a journalist I was able to experience it, which I'll always treasure.

And there's another key lesson.

You might think that 'those that can, do, and those that can't, write ' (to adapt a hackneyed quote about teaching). But many top sportsmen and women can't explain what they do and how they do it. It's not their job. They have to concentrate on whatever it takes to get to the top and stay there, and not consider anything else. It's why quite often the most talented people are the worst instructors, because they have no idea what it was like to be an untalented beginner!

That's why it's our job. And why it's my passion and obsession to share the things I love in a way which could inspire the same passion in others.

If you're ever on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, northwest of Morocco, you can swing by the El Diablo restaurant and grab some food that was cooked by an active volcano. OK, well, the volcano itself doesn't have arms and fingers, but the chefs at the restaurant use the heat produced by the active volcano to heat the food.

Even more clarification, the volcano isn't the lava-spewing mountainous type you'd think of…that would be such an uneasy dining experience. Instead, El Diablo serves as a unique dining experience where the chefs have access to an awesome hole in the ground, through which volcanic heat eminates from the depths of the Earth. The restaurant's history dates back to 1970, when Cesar Manrique decided it was time to create a formal restaurant in the area.

A blogger from OddityCentral notes the breathtaking views the restaurant has of the island's barren landscape. Looks like another restaurant I can add to the bucket list.

There are all kinds of artists out there and they all have their own style and their own domain of interest. For David Choe it's graffiti. He is a San Jose, California-based graffiti artist who was asked to create a mural for Facebook. The artist was paid in stock, meaning that when Facebook stock trades publicly later this year, he stands to make an astounding $200 million. I would say it was a pretty good deal.

The artist has also been contracted to make some other graffiti murals in some of Facebook's older buildings. His art can be seen there all over the walls. Since then he also got to paint some of the walls inside the new Facebook headquarters. I guess the Facebook team must really like his work. It seems legit since he's such an amazing artist.

The beautiful Bouquet mural that you see in he pictures was painted by other great artist called Jet Martinez. The San Francisco-based artist was asked to make a creative mural and he came up with this very pretty idea. It's an uncommon theme in this domain but the mural is very beautiful. You can admire this piece at the new Menlo Park campus. It's a very bright and colorful creation meant to put a smile on the face of anyone who passes by it.{found on nytmes and mymodernmet}.

Monograms used to be very fashionable. Nowadays they are just a way of decorating things but they can be used creatively if you use your imagination. This is a project that will show you how to make a monogram pillow. Pillows are always useful. Whether you use them as decorative items or you actually use them for comfort, they need to look beautiful.

The monograms are a great way of adding a personal touch to your pillows. For this project you can use any type or size of pillows you want.You'll need some fabric, a pillow form, a sheet of felt, fabric glue, coordinating thread and a sewing machine. It's a simple and fun project and at the end you'll have your own personalized pillow. You can create the monogram on the computer using simple programmes such as word. It's very easy. Just pick the font you like and choose the dimensions. Then print it on paper.

Now cut the linen fabric to the size that you want. You can make the pillow cover smaller to make the pillow look fuller. Cut the monogram from the paper and pin it to the felt. If it doesn't exactly fit you can also make it in sections. Now cut out the letter from the felt and unpin the paper. This part requires a lot of patience.

Then lay down the felt on the fabric and decide where you want your monogram to be placed on the pillow. Then use felt or fabric glue to make the monogram stay in place. Next it's time for the sewing machine to be useful. Use thread that matches the felt and stitch the outline of the letter sewing it to the fabric. At the end iron both pieces of fabric and you're done. You can choose any fabric and color you want and you can also decide on the font you like for the monogram. Lately we've been presenting you several creative DIY projects involving decorative pillows. This time we have something similar and yet completely different. Today we're going to show you how to make fabric letters. Here are the materials that you'll need: 8″ letters of your choice, some fabric of your choice, a sharpie/pen, a hot glue gun, glue sticks, sharp scissors and padding.Unlike the project with the pillows, this one is neither fast nor easy. The results are very satisfying.However, I doubt you would want to start all over again after you finish it. Be prepared for a time consuming project that requires a lot of patience. Now to show you the steps you'll need to take. First trace your letters onto the padding.

Then you need to cut your padding about an inch around your traced line so you have enough to wrap onto sides.Next apply hot glue to the padding and pull tight to wrap it around the sides. Then repeat steps 1 to 3 using fabric instead of padding. It would be easier to glue the face of the letter first and then the sides. Also, you need to use a different fabric for the sides. You can always change the design if you prefer something else. Now glue the strips of fabric on the sides of the letters.

This project is variable. If, for example, you choose a simple letter such as T everything will be a lot easier. However, if you choose the letter W for example, everything changes. It's not an easy project neither way.{found on littlethingsbringsmiles}.
