PomPom11smallWe are DIY crazy this time of year. Something about all the gift-giving opportunities really gets us going… whether it's making the gifts themselves or coming up with cute ideas for packaging. Lately we've been loving the whimsical feeling of pom poms, so we couldn't wait to make our own.

Supplies:

1. Cardstock

2. Yarn

3. Crochet hook

4. Scissors

5. Craft paper (for wrapping gifts)

Steps:

1. I followed the circle method for making my pom poms, so I started by cutting two circles out of cardstock, then wrapping my yarn around them.

2. Keep wrapping your yarn until the cardstock is completely covered.

PomPom6small3. Cut between the two layers of cardstock. This step may take awhile, depending on how much yarn you used and how sharp your scissors are. After you've cut completely around the circle, slide a piece of yarn between the 2 circles and tie it tightly in a knot to hold all the strands together. Slide the cardstock off the pom pom.

PomPom7small4. Trim your pom pom as needed to make the yarn lengths even.

PomPom2small5. After you've completed the pom pom portion of the project you can crochet some "ribbon" to wrap around your gift. For this step, I followed this easy video.

PomPom9small6. Now all that's left is to wrap your gifts in craft paper, tie on the "ribbon", and gather up all the pom poms you made.

PomPom8small7. Tie each pom pom onto the "ribbon" and cut away the ends of the yarn.

Ta-da! We hope you enjoy this project as much as we did!
