The mystery behind the Timeline Movie Maker domains that were registered earlier this month has been solved, as Facebook announced the launch of an application under that name that allows users to create movies highlighting moments from their timelines.
Timeline Movie Maker was created with marketing agency Definition6, and it will only work for users who have upgraded to the timeline profile.
After clicking "Make Your Movie" and granting the app permission to access personal data from users' profiles, Timeline Movie Maker creates one-minute movies featuring highlights from users' timelines.
Once the movie is initially viewed, users can edit and replace images, videos, and check-ins that appear (they are chosen randomly in the first go-around), as well as select from various soundtrack options (original, nostalgic, cinematic, romantic, playful). And the completed movies can be shared via Facebook.
So far, Timeline Movie Maker is only available in English, French, Spanish, and German.
Timeline Movie Maker is also a lot less creepy than the last app we looked at that creates a short film from information in users' profiles, Take This Lollipop.
