While plastic packaging has become a concern, researches are being made for replacements aimed to be biodegradable and hence ecologically responsible. One such paper packaging option is Billerud's Fibreform. It being biodegradable, recyclable and cost-effective, opens up another venue in product packaging industry.
From food to consumer electronics to pharmaceuticals, Fibreform has been devised to cater to a wide variety of uses. Thoroughly customizable by different manufacturers, the paper material with its sustainable property is light, features different textures and also can be embossed. "With extremely high stretchability, FibreForm offers totally new opportunities for developing ideas and designing packaging solutions where previously traditional papers have had their limitations."
One of its application was in the Sony Ericsson's concept packaging 'Leaf' designed by No Picnic. It was awarded the silver medal in design at the Pentaward's Worldwide Design Competition 2009. [Image below].
