Want to hear a great idea? Let your kids roll their Hot Wheels all over your iPad! Thanks to anti-scratch wheels on the Mattel Hot Wheels Apptivity cars, that's not as terrible of an idea as it sounds. The cars are automatically recognized when put on the iPad while the free Hot Wheels Apptivity app is running, allowing kids to mix physical playtime with digital playtime – a rarity. The app features three different kinds of racing games, which are played by the kids using the cars on the iPad, using the touchscreen as a (very expensive) play mat. The racing games are standard but fun fare, including a competitive racing game and a Mario Kart-like racer with power-up weapons to fire at opponents.
The Hot Wheels Apptivity car sets will hit stores in May, in packs of two cars for $20. The app will be free on the iTunes App Store for the iPad.
