Selling your product in the vast sea of well, products is a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And if your product happens to be of the print ilk, which is so passe, at least for the iPad generation, you can up that qundrary to a football field sized haystack.
That's why Valiant Entertainment has decided to take a novel, yet simple approach to marketing their number one issue of "X-O Manowar," a print comic. Yes, print! On the cover is an iPhone like cut out and to the right of it is a QR code. Capture the QR code and it automatically redirects your iPhone's browser to a YouTube video with an animated mouth (complete with dialogue). Place the iPhone on the aforementioned borders on top of the comic and it provides the appearance as if the character's face is speaking to you, before or after you buy it.
Unfortunately, it's just a canned YouTube video, so anyone could navigate to the page with or without the QR code. Nonetheless, it's a cool idea, but still doesn't hold a candle to LEGO augmented reality toy boxes we saw last April.
