It's been a fun weekend at Maker Faire NYC 2012, the celebration of arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the do-it-yourself mindset. Add it to your to-do list as it's an inspiring, thought-provoking, educational, and downright entertaining experience for you, the family, and definitely the children.
Maker Faire is a community-based festival where some of the greatest minds come together to inspire the world in the field of science. Currently, there are two large (flagship) Maker Faires, California and New York, but "Mini Maker Faires" are on the rise and cover a large portion of the United States and the rest of the world.
You can think of Maker Faire as one gigantic show and tell. It's described as part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new.
We had a fabulous time, as you can surely infer from the pictures. We went hands on with a ton of soon-to-be-released products and conceptual designs, spoke with brilliant people, and even learned a thing or two about the way things work and what's in store for the future. It's refreshing to see so much interest in science and engineering. This is why we think it's the ultimate event to bring your children to. Inspire the youth!
Maker Faire is but once a year, but it runs almost year round depending on where you live. The New York, Bay Area, and Detroit shows will be back next summer, so mark your calendars! To learn more, see MakerFaire.com.
