Hanging Tropical Bird Planter Made from Recycled Tires

via Luxury Housing Trends by Lindsay on 4/23/09

Hanging flower pots or planters are an easy way to add some interest to a covered deck, porch, or balcony. While your local home and garden store doubtlessly offers plenty of options, you may dig getting something made from recycled materials… such as tires.

These colorful tropical bird planters don't look much like the original black tire when you get them, but a close look proves they are indeed made from recycled tires.

Made by Texas-based Giddy-Up Swings 'n Things, the bird planters are available in several, er, species: Red Parrot Macaw, Blue Parrot, Green Parrot, Blue/Gold Macaw, and Toucan.

The company also makes tire swings that are a little more sophisticated than the rope-tied-to-a-tire models most of us had as kids (they're shaped into horses or steer).

The hanging bird pots costs $49, which includes shipping.

The Watch Without a Face

via Gizmodo by Sean Fallon on 4/17/09

At first glance this watch appears to be nothing more than a thick, gaudy silver bracelet. But tucked between the joints are LEDs that display the time at the push of a button.

If I wasn't so sure that I would look like a complete tool wearing this, it would be something I would love to pick up. Sadly, I don't feel the need to repeatedly explain to people that: A: it's a watch—not a bracelet. And B: I wear my shirt open with a medallion and chest hair sticking out because it's comfortable and the ladies love it. Besides, there is no word on when this might actually be available for sale. With all the work that needs to be done, it's often difficult to get a good night's sleep. Knowing this, some Russian dudes with a vision have decided to create a working pillow keyboard.

You can work, catch a bit of rest at your desk, then wake up and get right back to it. What could be more efficient than that? Productivity will skyrocket! You'll wake up with QWERTY (or the Russian equivalent) stamped across your forehead! It's a win for you aaaand a win for your co-workers. [Project Page]

Samsung Papyrus E-book Reader

Samsung also wants in on the e-book game by launching their own version known as the Papyrus. Unlike its original namesake that grew in abundance by the Nile, this modern version will come in a variety of colors while sporting a stylus that is used to navigate through the content. The Papyrus is equipped with 512MB of internal memory and can be used to take notes as if it were a diary. Apart from that, you also get productivity software including a calculator, contact list and a world clock. No idea on the exact release date for the Samsung Papyrus, but there are strong indications that point towards a $299 price point. Do you think this will do better than the Kindle 2?
